About the artist

 About Rebecca -

Rebecca gained her degree in Technical Arts Design from Wimbledon School of Art and originally trained in theatre, although she's been working as a TV/Film set designer for over 25 years.
After her first child was born, she took some time out from her media career to be a full time mum.  It wasn't long before she felt that the need to immerse herself in something creative, so whilst decorating her daughter's nursery, Rebecca got somewhat carried away!
The sand coloured walls became sand dunes and the ceiling became a sky, with fluffy white clouds, seagulls, kites and hot air balloons. On seeing this unique nursery, other parents soon requested the same for their kids and Rebecca was more than happy to create bespoke areas for them as well!

16 years later, Sensory Murals has provided hundreds paintings for homes, schools, hospitals, kids clubs, retirement homes and corporate companies.
Rebecca still works in TV and film and with her set design skills and contacts, she's able to provide highly skilled and trusted carpenters, electricians and landscapers to realise her designs.  She's painted entire exteriors of buildings with other scenic artists and has created therapeutic gardens and sensory rooms for children and adults with physical disabilities and special needs.
Rebecca has written successful mural painting workshops for both the young and old.  She's an avid believer that the therapeutic effects of art, colour and creativity can have on the mind and general wellbeing of both children and adults.  She loves to inspire and encourage learning through conversation and help bond friendships.

Last year Rebecca joined forces with BAFTA award winning TV writer, Dean Wilkinson. Together thy have created a series of children's books called Muriel's Murals.  These books are about a 'kitsch witch' called Muriel who paints murals in schools and they magically come to life.!  This has enabled Rebecca to fulfill her life-long ambition of illustrating children's books and she now runs illustration workshops and signing events in schools.

The Muriel's Murals has been published by Lexie Mouse Publishing who specialise in a unique font called Dyslexie Font
which was invented by Dr Christian Boer and enables dyslexic children to read more easily.

We are all hoping that Dyslexie Font will help bridge the gap between able and dyslexic and reluctant readers.  For more information visit:
